IP LICENSING

We recognize IP as a vital asset that needs proper management. Effective management of intangible assets is a matter of value protection and value creation, and therefore essential for the future success of any IP owning company or individual.

Licensing has emerged as a major issue for IP owning companies and individuals. Trademark owners use licensing programs to generate revenue and to increase brand awareness. Trademark licensing arrangements can allow trademark owners to expand their existing markets, or even create new markets, with little additional investment on their part. The effect on the trademark owner is increased profit and revenue stream, and expanded marketing opportunities, with minimal risk and overhead costs.

In the area of sports and entertainment, image rights have become increasingly significant sources of revenue to celebrities and sports organisations. Entertainment assets include copyrights, image rights and publishing rights, and owners of these rights –whether writers, sports people or artists- require the best facilities for setting up and managing international licensing structures, leaving them free to focus on their careers.

HOW WE WORK

HOW WE WORK

Making sure your business and IP strategies are aligned puts increasing pressure on your time and resources.  We take over the administrative burden to ensure adequate protection and exploitation of IP rights, in areas such as contract management and royalty collection. i-CAP is the ideal partner to help you protect and maximize the value of your IP assets.

License agreements usually being long-term strategic partnerships, we aim to build sustainable relationships with our clients. Licensor and licensee continually interact for a determined period of time, both dedicated to a profitable use of the intellectual property. It is important to ensure full compliance with these agreements by the licensees.

‘IP rich’ companies and individuals are creating more and more income from licensing arrangements, however the resulting royalty stream is often not actively managed. In fact, in most cases it depends on the accurate self reporting of the licensee. Pro-active monitoring of the licensee’s performance will improve bottom line results.

Meanwhile, we believe that control and risk management are essential for good entrepreneurship. We screen our clients carefully before accepting them in order to safeguard our clients and our own reputation.

i-CAP Netherlands B.V. is licensed by and under the supervision of the Dutch Central Bank (DNB).

Mr. Pieter Asjes (1961) studied Fiscal Law at Rijksuniversiteit Leiden. Before starting AsjesBisseling Tax Advisors in Amsterdam in 2011, Pieter worked at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (now pwc) since 1990.

Pieter is a solid generalist and is advisor to Dutch and international clients, ranging from wealthy private clients to (smaller) public listed companies. Among his clients are the Royal Dutch Football Association, several Dutch professional football clubs, sports events and stadiums, top end players and coaches and players’ agents. Pieter’s approach is characterised by his high involvement, personal touch and flexibility; family businesses and clients from the sports elite will attest to that too.

Besides his advisory role, Pieter takes care of the legal protection of his clients, when negotiations with the Fiscal Authorities seem deadlocked. He is involved in several levels of litigation, from objections to proceedings with the Highest Courts, if that is in the best interest of his clients.
End of 2016 Pieter was appointed as director of i-CAP Netherlands. This was approved by the Dutch National Bank (DNB).
